THE cube.

This is my cube! The rules of the project were to make a 4" x 4" cube, raised 4" off of an 8" base with straws, while having "eccentric sides". So this is what I came up with! I thought the circular openings on the side both enabled placement for the straws and made the sides interesting. I incorporated the circles in the base as you can see. Another big part of this project is the staples. Tommy said staples would be an interesting concept so I decided to try it. I learned that staples are NOT easy to work with. Lining them up and making them look neat is a task! I think adding staples added a new & interesting concept; similarity in contrast. Circles, to me, represent calm, tranquil concepts, while staples represent hard, and roughness. I have so many circles that it goes along with the chaos of the staples. So it is like both the staples and the circles have their own language, but similarities within the language, when used properly of course!

The top two pictures show my process. I learned from the top one that my stapled sides needed to be longer to achieve the look I wanted. In the second one, I got the look I was going for, but Rachel suggested i make the top like the other ones and have more straws going through the loop holes. I agreed with her and like the outcome much better!
