Let's Evaluate.

Today was my first Visual Design class. We were assigned to research blogs of other artists given to us; my favorite would have to be Tommy Kane. Tommy's page is full of photographs, realistic portraits, and drawings, both humorous yet captivating. Although all of these are very well done, my favorites are the cartoons. I like them because he combines line drawing with water colors. His depth perception and shadowing he creates with simple lines amazes me. His water colors are so graceful, yet abstract. Also, I like them because they aren't perfect; all of his lines aren't straight, he didn't color in the lines, and his quotes don't make sense; but, in my mind, that gives it character. His pieces just scream creative mind, and all it does is inspire me.

FiRST ASSiGNMENT FOR i.ARC :)

My idea sketches.

Our first project for iarc was to combine two natural objects with a binding agent. Who knew something so simple could be so complicated! That is the main thing I learned during this project, simplicity is never simple. Everything has to have a purpose. At first, I started out with a flat leaf and a sycamore seed ball. The binding agent was a rubber band and it basically looked like a leaf with a ball on top. Then, after our first critique, Tommy was curious as to why no one wrapped their item. So since we had to make revisions, this is what I came up with. My idea in this was to show contrast rather then similarities. Leafs are graceful and soft where as the sycamore is rough rough and sharp.
